The Government’s Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme will remain open until the end of October, the Chancellor announced yesterday.
What we know so far
- Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme will continue until end of October
- Furloughed workers across UK will continue to receive 80% of their current salary, up to £2,500
- New flexibility will be introduced from August to get employees back to work and boost economy
The scheme will continue in its current form until the end of July and the changes to allow more flexibility will come in from the start of August.
More specific details and information around its implementation will be made available by the end of this month.
A quick reminder of what the Government announced on Sunday;
- New COVID alert system introduced, alerts from 1 to 5.
1 = virus is no longer present.
5 = most critical.
Lockdown has been level 4. - You should go to work if you can’t work from home and it’s safe to go to work
- New guidance for employers is coming out
- Don’t use public transport for work if you can avoid it
- From 1 June 2020: Phased re-opening of some shops and schools in phases (year reception, year 1 and year 6)
- From 1 July 2020: Some hospitality and public places will reopen provided they’re safe
- This is all conditional, and depends on big ifs, and for all of us to stay safe and follow the social distancing rules
If you can’t stay safe and follow the social distancing rules at work, then you shouldn’t go.
There will be more guidance for employers on how to ensure that employees and customers are safe.
