I recently had a meeting with a new client, whom I met first time a few years back. The client originally went with a cheaper accountant at that time, however, we ended up working together.

The client originally went with a cheaper accountant on cost alone. But this decision backfired, as their accounts were consistently filed late.
This enthusiastic, growing business had built up £260,000 in cash reserves due to their hard work and financial discipline. However, they were shocked when I informed them that their company was at risk of being struck off!
When a company is struck off, it essentially dies. All assets, including the £260,000 cash in the bank, would be forfeited to the government! Restoring a struck-off company is possible but costly, requiring legal action.
Taking Action
During our meeting, I outlined everything required to bring their accounts up to date. We established new processes to ensure timely future filings. I also reviewed their tax planning, which was seriously suboptimal. With the right advice, their tax savings likely would have exceeded our fees.
This situation exemplifies why business owners must look beyond cost when choosing professional services. The old adage “Good, fast, or cheap – pick two” rings true. A few thousand pounds in accounting fees is negligible compared to the fallout of being struck off.
For mission-critical services like accounting, you want an advisor who becomes an integral part of your team – someone you can trust completely to handle compliance so you can focus on operating your company.
As a business owner, you need an accountant who:
- Makes filings their top priority, never dropping the ball on deadlines
- Is obsessively organised, accurate, and diligent
- Takes a proactive approach to minimising taxes ethically
- Functions as a true partner, not just a vendor
I aim to provide clients with total peace of mind that their finances and taxes are handled securely, ethically, and punctually. I aim to give business owners the headspace and confidence to fully devote themselves to growing their enterprises.
Don’t risk everything you’ve worked for by choosing an accountant based on the price tag alone. Do your due diligence, evaluate expertise over cost, and seek referrals. Your business’s prosperity depends on it.
